Happy Monday to you all! I thought I would start the week off by posting something a little different. I don’t normally blog about food, unless it’s about beautiful packaging, but I wanted to share with you some of Britain’s (and New Zealand’s) best gourmet pies, and what better way to do this during British Pie Week.
The British are lovers of a good pie, savoury rather than sweet, unless it’s a good hearty apple pie (or cherry pie for me). Whilst researching British Pie week I came across lots of lovely companies who produce great, home made gourmet pies, with lots of unusual fillings.
Pieminister, based in Bristol, make a range of savoury pies , with mouth watering fillings such as British Beef and Ale, British Chicken, Ham and Leek, and also Butternut Squash, Feta and Sun Dried Tomato. The beautiful images of these pies really do sell themselves, and I can’t wait to get a hold of them to try out for myself.
Another great British pie maker is Higgidy. Out of all the pies I’ve blogged about today, Higgidy Pies are more widely available, and I’ve been lucky enough to sample a few. Their wonderful creations leaving you wanting more, with the Spinach, Feta and Roasted Pine nut pie being my favourite.
Along my pie journey I found two more companies that caught my eye; The Humble Pie Company, based in the south of England and I Love Pies based in Aukland, New Zealand. Each offer their own take on the humble pie, with gastronomical results. I just hope I’m lucky enough to get my hands on these delicious creations one day!
Are you a savoury or sweet pie kinda person? x
