Life’s Little Quirks

Bouffants & Broken Hearts

Posted On: Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Whilst doing a little blog researching a couple of weeks ago, (ok pinning on Pinterest you got me!) I found the brilliant and quirky illustrator Bouffants and Broken Hearts. Her repetitive and  bright illustrations drew me in instantly… the colours, the subjects, the style. It’s raw and honest and no subject is left untouched. There’s so many designs to choose from, it was hard to pick which I wanted to show you, so here’s just a few that stood out to me, but head to her tumblr page to see lots more!

Line Illustration Favourites

Line-Illustrations-Montage

Hello all, I hope Monday is treating you well so far. I’ve been pinning a lot of lovely illustrations on my Pinterest board lately, and some of my favourites on there are these great, simple line illustrations. They perfectly capture the subject in a stylised way without the need for too much colour, and in some instances, detail. I think the next time I try my hand at a little illustration, I’m going to keep it to a simple line.

P.S. A lot of these illustrations are not credited, if you know who the illustrator is please let me know, so I can credit them correctly. Thank you!

Food Details by Beth Galton

Posted On: Wednesday, June 10, 2015

My obsession with food photography is growing by the week, I just can’t get enough of it! A photographer I love at the moment is Beth Galton, a New York based studio photographer who’s focuses on still life and food. I found Beth’s work by chance, it was her mesmerising Cut Food series that caught my attention to begin with and then I found her Landscapes project. The name intrigued me as it sat within her food photography series, but landscapes is outdoor scenery, right? So what has this got to do with food?

This is what… food landscapes that are intensely detailed and show our food close up, in a way we never take time to see. Beth Galton makes food beautiful.

Minimalistic Movie Posters

Posted On: Monday, June 8, 2015

Not many of you will know this about me, but I love movies and movie posters and it’s an aim of mine to design them. I especially like these minimalistic movie posters which are being created as an alternative to the shouty/loud posters we’re used to seeing. They all perfectly depict one famous icon/still from that movie and you instantly recognise the movie in question. Simple design. These are some of the poster that I’ve been collecting on Pinterest

A few more I couldn’t resist sharing…

Unfortunately I can’t accurately find the designers for these posters to credit them, but if you know who they are please let me know so I can credit them accordingly, thank you!

Whilst checking my Instagram feed last week I came across the mesmerising iPhoneographer Jia Huey, from Singapore. His architectural shots, with beautiful lines and symmetry caught my instantly and I knew I wanted to see more. Jia captures Singapore in the most fascinating way, with glimpses of strong, bold architecture that draws you into each photo. Being a perfectionist and liking clean lines, these photos make me feel happy, and these are just some of my favourites.

Bank Holiday Picks

BankHol-Fun

I’m enjoying another bank holiday today so I thought I’d take a little break from blogging, but not to disappoint my regular followers I still wanted to post something, so I decided to share a few pictures I’ve found recently on Pinterest that I love. As usual they’re all random and the only things that ties them all together are the colours. Very pretty pinks and pale blues.

Drawings by David Shrigley

Earlier last month I posted about my visit to Sketch and the wonderful drawings by David Shrigley that adorned their walls. His work left such an impression on me that I needed to find out (and see) more. David is a British visual artist and his work is quirky, humorous, dry, bizarre and just plain brilliant, with my favourite being his drawings. Here are a few of my favourites…

David’s drawings are true and honest, but also not to be taken too seriously (in the nicest sense). They are there to make you smile and for you to ponder over which is your favourite, only to change your mind over and over again. I like to see these drawings as a little ray of light when life gets too serious.
